Noir 46 gets its name from its geographical location, which is in Southern France, "Department 46." The wine region that this Department is contained is called Cahors. Cahors is the birthplace of Malbec, and was first planted over 2,000 years ago. Malbec was then brought to Bordeaux, and is one of the six grapes permitted there, and then to Argentina where it has become much more popular in modern times. This 100% Malbec is undoubtedly old world in style. The nose comes off leaning towards a more tertiary style. Dried plums and raspberries are present on the nose, but more non-fruit, complex aromatics dominate this wine. Leather, mushroom, and earthy notes are more apparent. The body of the wine is medium, with similar red fruit on the attack, but again, leaning towards a more savory finish. This wine is perfect for someone who enjoys old world wines, such as Bordeaux and Rioja with bottle age.
